December is Safe Toys and Gifts Month. That's because every year across the country, hundreds of kids are injured by toys they get for the holidays. Here's a list of things you should watch out for in toys you give or receive:
- Watch out for toys that could be choking hazzards to kids under 3.
- Toys with magnets should never be put in your mouth.
- Make-up kits can cause allergy problems. If you start getting sick around them, tell a parent.
- Don't change the batteries in a toy yourself, always let a grownup do it because batteries can leak and cause shock.
- Toys with strings, cords, ropes or netting can present a strangulation hazard. Never put them around your neck...not even for a second.
