Burn and eye injuries are the most common related to fireworks. And they happen every year. Follow these rules to make sure you don't get injured yourself.
- If you light sparklers and firecrackers, two of the most popular and dangerous items, make sure you keep them away from your face and clothes. They get extremely hot.
- Don't light fireworks in your hand.
- Buy fresh fireworks. Don't light those that have been sitting around for years.
- Make sure a water supply, like a hose or bucket of water is available.
- Never ever aim or point fireworks at other people.
- Don't carry fireworks in your pocket. Friction can set them off.
- Don't try to relight a dud.
- Don't attempt to pick up a firework off the ground, it may not be finished.
- Keep your pets inside. They are especially sensitive to the loud noises from fireworks.
