Flood Safety Tips

Dozens of Missouri counties have been under flood warnings this week. Even the smallest bodies of water that don't seem dangerous at all can sometimes fill up quickly and create danger. Do you know what to do if you're area is threatened by flooding?  Follow these guidelines to stay safe.

  1. Never play in flood water.  It could be contaminated.
  2. Stay away from objects that use electricity and are near the water.
  3. Never try to walk or swim across water covering an area you're trying to cross. It could be moving rapidly enough to sweep you away.
  4. Avoid storm drains, ditches, ravines and culverts.
  5. Be cautious of snakes in recently flooded areas.

Music in Our Schools Month

Playing a musical instrument is just one way to keep yourself busy with a positive, healthy activity.  March is Music in Our Schools Month.  If you've never thought about playing music yourself, now is a great time to start.  Check into the program at your school and see what options you have for instruments.  If they don't offer what you'd like, ask your parents if you can get private lessons outside of school. Or take a chance on something you've never thought about playing.  You might grow to love it!

This is Drug and Alcohol Awareness Week

KidsCast spends a lot of time trying to keep kids healthy.  We're sponsored by the Missouri Division of Alcohol and Drug Abuse.  Sometimes the best way for kids to learn how to live a healthy, drug and alcohol free life, is by watching and listening to their peers.  That's why we offer our monthly essay contest. They're all about kids learning to live a healthier, safer life. We also want to learn about your opinions. Take a few minutes to fill out our survey on alcohol.
